Spratt's Trading Post is a family owned and operated business established by Jerome Spratt in 1956. Jerome, or Jerry as he is called by his friends, had worked as the plumbing and heating Dept. Mgr. for Montgomery Wards before opening a small store with Wally Perry in Montpelier, Ohio.

After two years the long drive convinced Jerry to open his own store on the corner of his farm at State and Milens Rd. in Hillsdale. In the early days of the business it was not uncommon to take a cow or pig in on trade for goods or services. Working with Jerry was this sons Tom and John along with other family members.

Jerry took on the J.I Case farm equipment line and later began selling the Case Industrial line of backhoes and loaders. As the business grew Jerry entered the propane gas business as a partner with Blue Flame Gas. In 1986 Spratts went independent and started Spratt's LP Gas.

In 1992 Jerry's son Tom purchased the business and began to expand it to other areas. Along with the excellent service department they increased the lawn and gardent equipment and began a rental business renting heavy equipment.

Today Tom, his wife Shirley, and their sons Chad and Kurt are continuing the expansion of the business. A new bulk LP plant and lawn and garden service center has been opened on M-60 in the Jackson area. At the Hillsdale Store Chad and Kurt have developed the largest in-store RC hobby parts and vehicles in Southcentral Michigan. Click the Hobby Center Link to see all the is offered.

From the beginning Jerry has instilled pride in the top quality service, parts and equipment that is sold at Spratt's Trading Post. Tom and the boys have cared this pride forward and are dedicated to serving the public with this vision.
